The 2026 Providence Atoll season ran from early January to the end of March, spanning eleven consecutive weeks of world class fly fishing across some of the most remote and productive flats in the Indian Ocean. The weather had its ups and downs this season, but our guests and guides made the most of every moment on this exceptional atoll. The atoll and our guests delivered an extraordinary range of species, milestones, and memories. A significant number of giant trevally were landed across the season alongside impressive numbers of triggerfish, bumphead parrotfish, the odd milkfish, bonefish and a rare Indo Pacific Permit. Guests first GT’s, flats slams, super slams, and some extraordinary size GT’s defined a season that once again cemented Providence’s reputation as one of the most thrilling and untouched saltwater flats fisheries on the planet.

The ever popular GT’s showed their full might on Providence this season. The season provided a couple firsts for this species, and quite the setting to do it in for Marshall, Clarke and Sanjay.Notorious for its bigger GT’s, a whopping 21 fish over one meter were landed this season, with the two massive fish of 122cm landed by Julian and Helmut, respectively. Nick, Josh, Bobby, Micheal, Andrew, Wes, Jaco, Christoph, Jonathan, Allan, John, Clarke, Sanjay and Rowan all joined in on landing fish over 1 meter, some seasoned anglers with multiple under there belt, but for others it was an honour to help them join this very special group of anglers! Along with multiple double ups and some crazy experiences, some really noteworthy fish included a 115cm fish landed in the surf by Jaco.
Christoph landed three fish over a meter, with the biggest being 111cm. A great fish of 113cm was landed by Jonathan, and Allan finally ticked off a proper fish he had been after of 112cm! The two season highlights on the GT front came from Clarke and Sanjay, both of whom landed their first GT’s, but not just any first they landed fish of 101 and 104cm, respectively. Quite remarkable firsts for them, well done to them, the team and all the anglers on some outrageous GT fishing. We are sure there are bound to be many more exceptional stories to come from the seasons that lie ahead

The trigger fishing on Providence is continuously developing for our team of guides, there is still so much unexplored areas on the atoll, our guests and guides are having a blast figuring it out and finding new fish to target. As always, they provided many frustrations, but for some anglers many happy memories, not with a lack of persistence though. The Yellowmargin’s stole the show this season, with some serious fish landed by our anglers. Anything around 50cm is a truly special fish, with Nick, Shannon, Alan, Phil, Wes, Kathy, André, James, Darren, Allan, Brandon, Bruce and Chris all landing fish over 50cm, exceptional fishing to say the least! The most not worthy fish, were three fish all measuring 55cm, landed by Phil, André and Allan, Allan’s being landed on a 6wt rod! Some other notable mentions include Josh, landing all three species during his trip, Marshall landed a very memorable first Moustache trigger, Rob landing a moustache to complete a flats slam. Clarke and John took real advantage of the triggers in their weeks, with Clarke landing 6 fish in his first two days and he and later partnered up with John to land eight fish before launch. The trigger fishing this season was phenomenal and some incredible fish were landed, there are only great things to come from this destination in the years to come, Providence is definitely one of the places to be to target these epic fish.
Milkfish are one of those species that need to be taken advantage of when present and the anglers did exactly that this season. Deacon opened the season account and his account landing the first of I am sure many Milkfish for him. Gavin, Mark, Max, and Bobby all took advantage of the perfect conditions and feeding milkfish, landing fish throughout their week. John did exactly the same landing his first and the last of the season. Although not as prolific as other seasons, when the milkfish made an appearance, the team sure made the most of it and landed some great fish throughout the season.

A species almost every angler joining us on Providence has in the back of their mind, the bumphead parrotfish. Their emerald-green tails make many an angler weak at the knees and this season produced many an angling tale of the one that got away. Bobby landed an impressive fish in the second week of the season, while Lauren kicked off her week with a bang landing her first and a good sized fish at that. David and his group also got stuck into them landing an impressive tally of 10 in their week. Ryan dialled in early and accounted for three, Wes and Rob each added two and David and Ben both contributed fish. Darren, James, William, Alister, Andrè and Johnothan all also had their fair share of action landing 7 fish in their week, some of which were firsts for the group. Pete and Carlton add the final two fish for the season, ebbing and flowing throughout the season, the bumpies provided our guests some great entertainment and us guides multiple swims and or sprints across the flats.
The bonefish on Providence are known to be elusive, but if you find one, they are sure to be plus sized. Whether they provide some sport between targeting other species or contributing to flats slams they sure serve their purpose. The season’s standout bonefish included a monster fish around 8-9 pounds landed by Deacon, his brother Marshal also ticked off his first bonefish in the same week. Lauren, Alan, Jaco, Nikita and Rob all landed a bonefish each to complete their respective flats slams. Ever present and willing, the bonefish played ball as they always do, providing blistering runs and bent rods.

Providence’s remarkable diversity goes well beyond the headline species; this season produced some memorable and unexpected moments. The most noteworthy was a permit landed by Nikita, who arrived with a single goal: to land one. Through days of dedication, patience, and precise casting he finally achieved it, landing a beautiful 46 cm permit, a rare fish on providence and the first landed by the Blue Safari team in 4 seasons. Multiple other species were landed by our guests from Bohar snappers to emperors, various grouper species, including African marbled groupers and a lovely Saddleback grouper by Saif.
Providence Atoll delivered one of the most varied, powerful, and memorable seasons, the eleven action packed weeks did not disappoint. Challenging weather, glass off days, and everything in between it was a privilege to have all the anglers join us! The atoll gave everything it had, with metre class GT’s in extraordinary numbers, phenomenal trigger tallies, bumphead parrotfish, milkfish, trophy bonefish, a rare permit, and even a saddleback grouper. First fish landed, flats slams, super slams, and personal bests were achieved throughout. Anglers from across the world arrived as strangers and left part of the Blue Safari family, united by the shared passion for fishing and protecting some of the most rewarding and pristine destinations in the Indian Ocean. Providence Atoll remains exactly that, a place where every cast counts and every fish is earned.
