Late February into March on Cosmoledo delivered a rewarding mix of milestone catches, trophy GT’s and technical flats fishing. Tides shifting from spring into neap phases, anglers experienced both powerful moving water and calm, clear conditions ideal for sight fishing. The period was defined by first time GT’s, impressive metre class fish and a well-rounded spread of species across the flats and outer reef.

GT’s were once again the headline species with 57 fish landed, including several trophy specimens and multiple first time catches. Julian, Sangston, Daniel and Michael all landed their first on fly, marking unforgettable milestones on the flats. The following week saw even more firsts with Steve, Tommy, Bill, William, Tyler, and Colin all successfully landing their first GT’s, highlighting just how rewarding Cosmoledo can be.
In terms of size, several standout fish were landed. Brian stole the show early in the period with a superb 116 cm GT sight fished off the edge of a deep pancake flat. Tommy followed with an impressive 110 cm fish, while Steve added another metre class GT at 104 cm. William also joined the trophy club with a powerful 102 cm GT landed on the outside of the atoll. George enjoyed a particularly productive week, landing multiple GT and completing a flats slam, while consistent action across both weeks ensured rods were regularly bent.

Bonefish added steady support to the action with 16 fish landed across the period. Although numbers were lower than typical Cosmoledo standards, anglers still enjoyed quality encounters on the flats. Several anglers including George, Tommy, Tyler and William used bonefish as part of successful flats slams, highlighting their importance in multi species days on the atoll.
Permit made a rare but memorable appearance with 1 fish landed. Tyler successfully landed his first indo pacific permit, adding a special moment to an already memorable trip that included GT and bonefish.
Triggerfish provided technical and rewarding fishing with 7 fish landed. Julian landed a strong 50 cm yellow margin triggerfish, a notable achievement given the difficulty of the species. He and Brian also added moustache triggerfish to their tally during the first week. George completing a flats slam including a yellow margin triggerfish, and Tommy achieving an impressive multi species day including both moustache and yellow margin triggerfish as part of his slam.

Across the period Cosmoledo once again showcased its ability to deliver both milestone achievements and trophy fish. From first Gt’s to metre class giants and rewarding multi species days, the atoll continues to prove why it remains one of the most exciting and diverse saltwater fly fishing destinations in the world.Top of Form
