This was another incredible week of fly fishing at Alphonse Island Lodge. We were fortunate to be joined by six anglers. James and Graham gave it their all, fishing every single day, while Ben, Alan and Katie, joining us as a family, gave the fly fishing a good go over the course of the week. The week was highlighted by some phenomenal bone fishing, with a couple of very impressive fish landed, several first bonefish and a good number of very first fish on fly. The headline catch, though, belonged to James, who realised his dream of landing a giant trevally.

The standout catch of the week was undoubtedly the 68cm giant trevally landed by James. A very capable young angler, James came to the Seychelles with one goal in mind, to land one of these formidable predators. His hard work was well and truly rewarded. A group of fish feeding hard on the edge of one of the many pancake flats presented the perfect opportunity. A well-laid-out cast was met by a massive take, followed by a gruelling battle among the coral heads. Ultimately the fish was beaten, and a beautiful 68cm giant trevally came to hand.

The bone fishing was exceptional all week, with 107 fish landed. James and Graham enjoyed a particularly memorable day on the water, landing two fantastic bonefish that both hit the 65cm mark, the biggest of the week.
Ben, Alan and Katie had a ton of fun with the bonefish too. Ben and Alan both landed their first bonefish on fly during a short session after lunch on the flats. Katie then topped it off with a remarkable catch of her own, landing her very first bonefish. What made it so special was that Katie had attended her first fly casting lesson only the day before. She then headed down to the beach in front of their bungalow and hooked and landed this bonefish all by herself!
A huge thank you to James, Graham, Ben, Alan and Katie for sharing their week with us. From a hard earned giant trevally on the pancake flats to a bonefish caught straight off the beach, it was a week to remember. We hope to welcome you all back to the flats of Alphonse soon!
