Late February on Providence Atoll delivered an outstanding period of fishing defined by exceptional GT action, trophy triggerfish, and a wide variety of species across the flats and outer reefs. From metre class GT’s and impressive yellowmargin triggers to bumphead parrotfish and rare reef species, anglers experienced both the power and diversity that Providence has become known for.

Geets dominated the fishing throughout the period with a outstanding total of 87 fish landed, including numerous fish over the one metre mark. The atoll produced exceptional numbers and size, with six fish over one metre landed and several more lost during powerful fights. Julian enjoyed one of the standout sessions when he landed a massive 122 cm GT together with a 98 cm fish on the same day.
Christoph delivered two metre class fish measuring 101 cm and 107 cm, while Helmut produced one of the most remarkable performances of the trip. Helmut landed three GT over one metre, measuring 113 cm, 118 cm and 122 cm, along with several others in the high 90 cm range. Marco and Stephan steadily added to the GT tally with consistent action, while Jonathan landed a powerful 113 cm GT, one of the largest fish of the period. Darren enjoyed steady success landing multiple fish, including a solid 93 cm fish, while André and James also added several GT to their scorecards as they settled into the rhythm of fishing the atoll.

Triggerfish provided several exciting technical encounters, with 9 triggerfish landed during the period. Stephan landed an impressive yellowmargin triggerfish measuring 51 cm, while Helmut added both a moustache triggerfish and a yellowmargin triggerfish to his species list.
Several trophy triggers were landed, including a monster 55 cm yellowmargin triggerfish by André. James added a beautiful 53 cm fish, while Darren enjoyed exceptional success landing three yellowmargin triggers, including fish measuring 51 cm and 53 cm. Alister also contributed a strong yellowmargin triggerfish during the period.
Bumphead parrotfish added an exciting dimension to the fishing, with 7 fish landed. André landed one of these powerful fish early on, while William enjoyed particularly memorable success landing three bumphead parrotfish. These massive coral grazers delivered explosive runs and heavy fights on fly tackle.

Bonefish added further variety with 6 fish landed. William and Alister both added bonefish to their species list, with William combining a GT, bumphead parrotfish and bonefish on the same day to complete the only flats slam of the trip.
Across the period, Providence once again demonstrated why it remains one of the most exciting and productive fisheries in the Indian Ocean. With multiple metre class GT, trophy triggerfish, bumphead parrotfish and rare reef species, the atoll delivered both power and diversity in equal measure.
