The mornings here begin quietly. The light comes in low off the Caribbean, with Frigatebirds drifting overhead while you finish your first coffee. Somewhere out on the water, a Permit is tailing.
This is Sian Ka’an, a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve on the tip of the Boca Paila Peninsula, where the Yucatán jungle meets a vast, shallow fishery, and the ancient world is never far from the surface. We’re excited to share it with you.

Blue Safari Mexico inherits an amazing partnership from the Keir family, along with a guide team and a legacy of operational expertise. Sian Ka’An Lodge is the newest destination for Blue Safari, and our first home outside the Indian Ocean. We’ve approached it with the same conviction that has shaped the Seychelles’ Outer Islands – that the place itself is the point, and everything we do should protect it.
The lodge (previously known as Grand Slam Fishing Lodge) sits inside one of the world’s great mixed-species flats fisheries. Ascension Bay holds the Big Four of Caribbean fly fishing – Permit, Bonefish, Tarpon and Snook – and Punta Allen, a kilometre from the lodge, is recognised internationally as the Atlantic Permit capital of the world. For those who fish, the opportunity here is as good as it gets.

But Blue Safari Mexico is not only a fishing lodge – it is a destination. The Yucatán offers a landscape as deep and layered as any we have encountered. The peninsula is home to more than 6,000 cenotes, the freshwater sinkholes the ancient Maya revered as sacred portals. Above ground, Tulum stands as one of the last great Mayan coastal cities. El Castillo and the Temple of the Frescoes still draw wonder from the clifftops above the ocean.
Each evening, guests return to the lodge to share the day’s experiences. Meals are led by Mexican chefs, drawing on produce from the surrounding communities and line-caught fish from Punta Allen.

Conservation runs through every part of how Sian Ka’An Lodge operates. Inside the UNESCO-listed biosphere, that means strict catch-and-release guiding, employment drawn from surrounding communities, and active partnerships with Punta Allen, including beach clean-up and plastic removal initiatives. The lodge runs on 94 solar panels, supplying approximately 85% of its energy. A conservation levy is included in every stay and goes directly to the reserve. Ahead of the lodge’s first full season, Blue Safari will announce a regional conservation partner, modelled on the established Alphonse Foundation in the Seychelles.
“The way we see it, the sea is both the primary asset and the primary vulnerability here, so the question is not whether to use the ocean but how. If managed well, the ocean can generate lasting economic value, with fly fishing revenue used to fund the kind of conservation infrastructure that keeps ecosystems intact.”
— Keith Rose-Innes, Managing Director & co-owner, Blue Safari

Sian Ka’An Lodge is accessible via Tulum International Airport, approximately 25 miles away, or Cancún International Airport, approximately 105 miles away, with road and boat transfers included in the rate. Helicopter transfers are also available for those who wish to arrive by air.
Blue Safari Mexico and Sian Ka’An Lodge opens for fly fishing guests from July 2026, while we develop an offering, linked to the Alphonse Island experience. Further details on the expanded experience and opening timelines will be announced in due course.
