Alphonse Island Fly Fishing Report | 17 – 24 October 2026

Alphonse Island Fly Fishing Report | 17 – 24 October 2026

This was another incredible week of fly fishing on Alphonse, despite some very challenging weather. We were fortunate to be joined by eleven anglers: Marcus, Anna, Mike, Virginia, Seth, Jeff, Sheila, Josh, Preben, Marta and Patricia. It was great to see so many first time fly anglers joining us on the flats, and the conditions did little to dampen a week that delivered first fish, a run of triggerfish and a couple of real curveballs.

Josh had the permit all to himself this week, managing to fool both of the permit landed while walking the flats around Alphonse.

The bonefish came out to play, with 76 landed over the week. Sheila, Marta and Patricia all managed to land their very first bonefish, a milestone that never gets old for guests or guides. Jeff also thoroughly enjoyed some fantastic bonefishing throughout his stay.

The triggerfish were definitely out and about. Jeff topped off his week of bonefishing with a beautiful moustache triggerfish on his final day, while Tim and Virginia also got stuck into the triggerfish action, each landing a moustache triggerfish during the week. Andy joined us for a couple of days of fishing after his time on Farquhar and was rewarded with two beautiful yellow-margin triggerfish.

Perhaps the most interesting catch of the week came from Marcus, who landed a 57 cm milkfish that picked up his pillow talk while he was fishing to a group of bonefish on the back of East Knoll.

Virginia was looking for something a little different this week, and she eventually met her goal by landing a fascinating 44 cm batfish. Batfish can provide some fantastic “dry fly” fishing and will readily take a well-tied blue bottle imitation.

That’s all for this week. A big thank you to all our anglers for braving the weather with such enthusiasm, and congratulations to everyone who ticked off a first on the flats.
