Exceptional weather and a welcomed return of GT’s was the president for this week on Alphonse. The guests took full advantage of the conditions, and an awesome week was had by all, including some very special catches.
Mark was the first guest to connect with one of these powerful predators. While walking the surf along Bijoutier Island, he successfully brought to hand a beautiful 90 cm GT, after some powerful runs and an epic fight on foot. Jumping on the big GT bandwagon Billy also got in the action landing a 90cm silver lagoon GT. John had a great off short session with the popper raising a couple fish and landing two GT’s in a session, and to top it off landed a third the next day. Colin no stranger to the flats of St Francois undoubtedly stole the spotlight with the fish of the week, landing an impressive 114 cm GT, a truly special fish for St Francois. On the final day, Paul and John each managed to land a GT from the surf, capping off an excellent week of GT fishing for the Alphonse Group.
The spring tides brought excellent opportunities for targeting triggerfish on the exposed flats and shallow shorelines. Robert was the first guest to connect with one of these tricky flat’s specialists, after some tough luck and triggers being triggers, he landed a beautiful moustache triggerfish. John also had success with a triggerfish on his very first day on the water landing a solid 41 cm moustache triggerfish.
Milkfish began appearing more frequently as the week progressed, with some impressive specimens landed. Earl encountered a small group of large milkfish sipping on the surface in the lagoon, where he hooked and later landed an impressive 100 cm milkfish. John and Steven also got in on the action in the lagoon and after an entertaining fight landed their own milkfish. Chris, not to be out done got in on the action and successfully landed a 102cm Milkfish, being then biggest of the week, and a true giant.
The week ended off with picture perfect weather, and many stories of fish seen, ones that got away and a yearning to come back and tick those species off that evaded some of our anglers. Thanks and well done to all the anglers that joined us and we look forward to welcoming you all back soon.
